Foundry Networks FastIron SuperX Layer 2/3 High Density Switch w 3/FI424C, SX-F112GM-4
Description: This Foundry Networks Fastiron is not like the old Fastiron II at all. This is the baby of the new Fastiron SuperX / SX Family of Advanced Layer 2 / Basic Layer 3 Ethernet Switches. This unit is software upgradeable to dynamic routing including BGP-4 and multicast routing. But most different from its predecessor is that each tiny blade supports 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet over Copper, including PoE (requires additional power supply modules).
This SuperX unit is not built for switch fabric redundancy, unlike its bigger brothers, the SX 800 and SX 1600. It has two power supplies installed. Two more can be installed to provide Power-Over-Ethernet.
The unit in this auction has an SX-F112GM-4 Controller with 256MB RAM and 12 Gigabit Copper Ports.The three FI424C cards provide 72 additional ports.

The use of video applications in the workplace requires support for scalable multicast services from the edge to the core.IGMP (v1,v2,v3) and PIM snooping improves bandwidth utilization in Layer 2 networks by restricting multicast flows to only those switch ports that have multicast receivers. In Layer 3 networks, support for PIM-SM,PIM-SSM and PIM-DM multicast routing optimizes traffic routing and network utilization for multicast applications.
